Planned Giving



The Church relies on donations to ensure that it may continue its work both within the local community, the wider community and help with worldwide causes.  Our “Friday 200” Project has now passed a total of £150,000 given to good causes locally and internationally since it was started.

We encourage all to make planned giving’s via the planned giving envelope scheme or by standing order.  For envelopes please contact the parish office by phone or email requesting the envelopes.

Gift Aid

The Government operate a scheme called Gift Aid which allows Charitable organisations to reclaim the tax back from donations given by tax payers.  In order that the charity may do this the donor must complete a Gift Aid declaration.  The Church operates such a scheme and all donors who give by planned envelope giving and standing orders can further benefit their parish by 25p for every £1 they give.  In order that the Church may benefit please complete a Gift Aid Form and return the form to the Parish Office.

Your Questions Answered.

Do I have to promise to give a fixed amount for a number of years?

No, there is no on-going commitment.

Do I have to be a tax-payer?

Yes, you do. You must pay income tax or capital gains tax for each tax year (6th April to 5th April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax all the charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs to which you donate will reclaim on your gifts for that tax year. Other taxes such as VAT and Council Tax do not qualify.

Can I pay by cheque?

Yes. Give the cheque to the parish so they can record the donation.

Can I still use my weekly envelope?

Yes. Continue to use your envelope, and the parish will be able to claim tax back at the basic rate on your donations.

Can I pay Bankers’ Order?

Yes. Regular payments by Bankers’ Order are a very good way of supporting your parish. They reduce cash handling and help the parish cash-flow. They also provide an excellent way of tracking New Gift Aid donations.

Do I have to keep making these Declarations?

No, one declaration can relate to all your donations.

Do declarations expire?

No. The Declaration runs as long as you want it to.

What if I want to cancel it?

Just let your Priest or Parish Gift Aid Organiser know, they will notify the diocese so that no claims will be made while you are not paying tax.

What if I move house?

Your declaration will still be valid, wherever you are living, but you will need to let the diocese know your new address.

Will everybody in the parish know how much I give to the church?

Certainly not! A very few people, like you Priest or Parish Gift Aid Organiser will have to know. Other people need not know and will not be told.

I want to make a single donation to my parish. Can the diocese get the tax on that too?

Yes, provided you are a tax payer and make a Declaration. If you give a lot of money, the tax reclaimed could be significant. Do ask your Priest or Gift Aid Organiser to let you know how much tax you need to have paid to cover a large donation.
